The art club is for all students interested in learning about and creating art. Students take field trips, showcase their art, and participate in service projects throughout the year.

We delve into the world of literature together and discuss our love of books of all shapes and sizes. We try to focus on fictional words and we discuss character development, give interpretations and predictions, and expound upon questions we have after reading. We try to reading two books a term chosen by students with teacher discretion

chess club

Chess Club

The Chess Club is a place for all people interested in chess from beginner to master. We compete in at least two competitions a year including the MAIS chess tournament. Join us to learn more and to hone your skill.

homebodies

Homebodies Club

Here we focus on exploring various fiber craftworks. We teach basic skills for the following crafts: knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching/embroidery, and hand-sewing. We are also open to learning other crafts if students have those skills already developed and would like to share with the group.

life skills

Life Skills Club

In this club students discuss and learn things that will help them in daily life. For example: changing tires, how to check your car's oil, how to budget, how to wash clothes, etc.

mu alpha theta

Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is the high school and two-year college mathematics honor society dedicated to inspiring interest, strong scholarship, and enjoyment of mathematics. Membership requires that a student be taking Algebra II while maintaining an “A” average and a member must have taken and maintained an “A” average in two previous mathematics courses.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society seeks “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in students in secondary schools.” Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have acquired a cumulative 3.7 grade point average in core courses (English, mathematics, science, history) may be considered for membership. In addition grades, leadership, service, and character are included criteria for evaluating potential members, and a prospective member must have completed ten hours of community service.

Students Against Destructive Decisions encourages positive and healthy decision-making for students. We discuss potential life-altering decisions such as driving while impaired (alcohol, drugs, lack of sleep, etc.), distracted driving (texting, phone calls, conversations, etc.), and driving without a sealtbelt.

science national honor society

Science National Honor Society
Sponsor: Amanda Hearn
The Science National Honor Society encourages students to recognize scientific and intellectual thought. Membership requires that a student have and maintain a 3.0-4.0 overall grade point average and be enrolled in at least one advanced or college-level science class (Chemistry II, Physics, Adv. Biology II) during or prior to the eleventh-grade year. In addition, a member must be enrolled in at least a single second-year honors science class (Chemistry II, Physics, Adv. Biology II) during or prior to the twelfth-grade year. A member must maintain a 3.5 overall grade point average in all secondary science courses, and a member must maintain behavior that is acceptable to the guidelines of the school.

The sports info management club uses technology and graphics to promote athletics on social media. Students learn to make clear concise and engaging graphics to bring attention to information in an athletic setting.

student government

Student government is a group made up of 7-12 grade class representatives. They are elected each spring by their classmates and serve in their position the following school term. The reps discuss plans for student and school activities including; homecoming festivities, student section themes for sporting events, Veteran's Day programs, and Derby Day. They are responsible for organizing and raising money to put on these events.
